The History

Word of Truth Fellowship is a Non-Denominational Independent Christian Church. It was founded by Pastor Herbert L. Broussard and his wife, Gezelle T. Broussard who shared their vision with Minister John D. Rhodes, his wife, Ramona E. Rhodes and the late, sis Louise Walker. After many months of praying and planning together, Word of Truth Fellowship church became a registered non-profit 501C3 religious corporation in 1991. After 20 years of faithfully having church in their home, then in a hotel conference room and later in a small store-front building, God blessed the congregation with a newly constructed building that is fully paid for and where the church had been holding services for the past five years.

After hurricane Katrina, our assistant pastor, John D, Rhodes, his wife and their family relocated to Georgia with his job and deacon, Ralph Perry III who has served faithfully for 17 years with his wife, Lady Lisa Perry, was ordained a minister of the gospel and installed as assistant pastor. Our church motto is, “We’re more than a church, we’re a family” and indeed we are. God set many faithful men and women in this local Body and even though we’re blessed with various abilities and positions, every job that God has ordained to be done in this assembly is important and we fully understand that we’re all together co-laborers in His Kingdom.

Meet The Pastor

Pastor Herbert accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1981 and was baptized. He attended the Baptist Theological Seminary and Tabernacle of Prayer Ministry School where he graduated at the top of his class. After a few years of faithful service at his church, he was ordained a deacon, then a minister of the gospel and installed as the assistant pastor. When God called him to pastor the Saints of God at Word of Truth Fellowship, He gave him two specific instructions. First, God told him not to Lord over His people, but be a servant, and secondly, God told him not to be a burden to His people, but a blessing.

Thanks be to God for enabling pastor Herb to fulfill the instructions He had given him these 25 years. Bro Herb, as he likes to be called, has a true shepherd’s heart and temperament. He’s kind, He’s peaceable, he’s humble, friendly, easy to be entreated and makes himself available, but he also knows when to reprove. Preaching and teaching inside the sanctuary is only part of what he does. He sweep, clean-up, paint, fix things, counsels, make phone calls, house calls, hospital visits, does funerals, weddings, help wherever needed and every other Saturday, he goes on the street with the outreach ministry to win souls to Christ. In his 39 years as a Christian, bro Herb, has missed very few services. The work God has committed to his hands are not grievous and he does it faithfully with joy. He is very loved by all who knows him.
